Which city is better, San Francisco or Los Angeles?

Both are very cool ,fun, open society, multi culture , laid back life style, a lot of immigrants( SF area mainly from Asia, LA
majority from Mexico) , world class of museums and events , and all the amenities of big city ,but they are in pretty
different styles. If you like more nature, scenic view, clean air, and more cosmopolitan feeling and high tech style, then
San Francisco. If you like warmer weather, nice beach, party,  entertainment, and typical California life,  then Los Angeles.

Both are very expensive,LA is a little cheaper, but LA has several celebrate hub communities such as Beverly Hill, Santa
Monica, Bel Air, Brentwood, Pacific Palisades, and Malibu and famous beach cities such as Marina Del Rey, Newport
beach and Laguna beach

There are some nice area and some unsafe area. Most tourist sites and accommodations are in safe area.

I want to visit SF and Los Angeles altogether, how can I do it?

You can book jaw-flight from many airlines, or just take round trip from bay area( SFO, OAK, SJC) to LA area( LAX, BUR,
ONT, SNA, LBG), the fare is about $59 to $79 one-way, and only 1 hour flight time. There are over 100 flights per day,
from OAK to LAX, it runs every 30 min, from SFO and SJC, it runs every 1 hour.

You may consider driving, there are 3 ways to get there. The fastest way  is to go I-5( 370 miles, 6 hours driving) but you
see only wind mill powers in Altamont Pass, and all agriculture and rattle area around and San Padro Mountain, You can
go 101 (  430 miles, 7.5 hours driving) , you can see high-tech silicon valley, vegetable production area, and beautiful
Pismo and Santa Barbara beach and Danish village Solvang. The most beautiful scenic driving is to drive though Hwy 1(
492 miles, 11 hour driving), you can see most beautiful coastline( Big Sur, Hearst Castle, and Central California)

There are rail services connect bay area with LA area, most go San Joaquin Valley( Bakersfield) then transfer bus to LA,

I would like to see Hollywood sign? How can I get there?

Hollywood sign was erected in 1923 for advertisement for real estate newly developed in Hollywood. At that time,
Hollywood was remote area and surrounded by ranches and farms, and rapid developing film industry build studios
there, such as big 8( MGM, warner, universal, paramount, united artists, columbia,20th century fox, disney), and soon
Hollywoodland became icon and many pilgrims visited the sites but repeat vandalism ruined the sites. In 1990,
Hollywood sign foundation built permanent sigh and facilities to protect is.

You can see Hollywood sign from Kodak  theater which is 8 miles away.  Hollywood sign is just under radio towers in Mt
Lee( elevation 1640 feet) east side of freeway 101 and Hollywood reservoir, and west side of Griffith park. There are two
way to access there, one is from Hollywood blvd turn left at Cahuenca blvd and in canyon area turn right to Wonderview
drive up the hill and turn right at Lake Hollywood drive down the hill, you will see Hollywood reservoir,  and at gate of lake
hollywood estate turn left to Tahoe drive, and turn left to Canyon lake drive, this is closest place you will see the sign ......
Deleted, we don't encourage you to hike

The another way is to go Franklin ave, and turn left to Beachwood drive, you will see 1923 Hollywoodland estate, and go
up the hill to left Rockcliff drive to the gate, which is just under Hollywood sign. Don't trespass without permit ,  the alarm
and moving video camera will be in working condition,  law enforcement will come by, actually you can't see the full sign
there because the structure is about 50 to 60 feet high, the best way to see is under the mountain.
